Came to Tamarindo with my wife and our 4 month old son for a relaxing beach/surfing holiday. Upon checking in I was appauled at the cleanliness and condition of the front desk area. We were greeted by a 'dude' who turned out to be the hotel manager who was hanging out with some of his surfer buddies. The room was one of the smallest and dirtiest rooms I have ever stayed in. I have travelled extensively and this hotel still sticks in my mind as being the filthiest. We had booked a crib for our son which upon our arrival was just dragged out from some dirty storage area and brought to our room complete with large amounts dirt, spiders and their webs. Fortunately we had lots of diaper wipes to clean it. The restaurant food was of very poor, deep fried quality and the complimentary breakfast buffet was ubsurd. The pool was frrezing cold and dirty. Every facet of this place reflected the incredible lack of care and pride the owner(s)/manager(s) have. The rates they charge and their eloquant descriptions led me to believe that this was a nice place. They need to be honest and admit that it is just a surfers/partiers hostel and they need to drastically cut their rates and hire some cleaning staff! We were booked to stay a week and left after the first night. I'll give the 'dude' credit as he didn't penalize us for leaving early. I figure that early departure of the guests is something they get often.

The hotel was great in helping me out. Don't count on Online travel website if you run into problems.
Although there is security at the gate, they said don't leave anythng of value inside, common in Costa Rica.
Hot water did not work well in showers. Other than those porblems, this was a nice cheap place to stay.
Recommend the pizza at BW. They do charge extra for the full continental breakfast.
You can book most of your activities at the lobby. It took me about 5 hours to drive to Tamarindo.
BW Tamarindo is on the main drag but is easy to pass it you are not watching. It takes about 10 minutes to walk through most of the city.
