We've traveled to Costa Rica 7 times and stayed at several "off the beaten path" places. I wasn't expecting fantastic but this place is definitely a mixed bag. The "casino" was closed for renovations, our room was large, had a nice patio area but was a hike or short drive to the main building. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived! I booked it 3 months in advance and paid the first night. They made us wait at the pool without asking if we'd like a drink or anything. The restaurant is a large, weird wood panelled thing that hasn't been updated since the waiters were born (they seemed to be about 75). The entire place has an air of moth-eaten, has been elegance. We'd heard the son was in charge and dad had retired. No kidding! Food is very decent but expensive.

Great hotel with lots of character. Friendly staff, clean, comfortable and accomodating. Near the city but also allows for peace and quite. The breakfast is continental but they do include eggs and meat. They have a spa a bit expensive but worth it. Two great local restaurants are near, Las delicias del maiz and la princesa marina. This hotel is perfect from everyone, for families with children, honeymooners, singles, and so on. I would recommend it and would stay there again. Near the hotel is zoo ave (zoo specializes in birds), and great local restaurants.

Stayed here for 4 nights end of March and had a great time. Staff went out of there to accomodate us and book tours, even offered private tour to Manuel Antonio beach. We booked adventure tours and volcano tours through the hotel as well. I would recommend it to anyone. Neighborhood grille next door with zoo across the street. 15 minutes from airport. Internet access. Clean rooms. Beautiful pool area. Complimentary breakfast in the morning was nice.

  • Great Value, great food and close to airport

This place is so cute and kitschy. It?s an old world Italian villa in the middle of Costa Rica. The rooms are large and comfortable with private balconies. The pool area is great. Dinner was fantastic and a great value. They have a large collection of Costa Rican wood dishes at very good prices. All this and only 20 minutes to the airport (there wasn?t any traffic that day). I would definitely stay here again.

Hotel is older, but the rooms were clean and the value for the money was good. It's about 10 minutes away from San Jose airport, so not a bad place to stay if you need to be close to the airport.
